Shrimati Lakshmi Sukumar was instrumental in setting up Chinmaya Mission San Diego in 2001. She has been teaching Bala Vihar and studying Vedanta since 1988 in San Jose. She leads study groups for adults throughout the week and Chinmaya Dhvani-youth choir. Besides teaching at training workshops for Bala Vihar teachers within the Mission throughout the US, she also conducts Hinduism workshops for schoolteachers, interfaith communities and other interested groups and makes presentations at local schools as needed. She has compiled several books for Bala Vihar and adults such as the Chinmaya Book of Hymns and the Chinmaya Book of Vedic Chants. Every year she teaches at Chinmaya Family and Youth camps and has organized two family camps in San Diego.
